DuPage County reports 255 COVID-19 cases Wednesday, 6 deaths, region’s positivity rate drops to 10.3%

The DuPage County Health Department on Wednesday reported 255 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 in the county, with 6 deaths: 1 woman in her 60s, 1 man in his 60s, 1 woman in her 80s, 1 man in his 80s, 1 man in his 90s and 1 woman in her 100s.

The county now has seen a total of 56,652 coronavirus cases including 895 deaths, according to the health department. The recovery rate among DuPage County cases as of Dec. 15 was 97.4%.

The West Suburban region (DuPage and Kane counties) has seen 10 consecutive days under 12%. The region’s positivity rate decreased to 10.3%. Currently, 21.3% of medical/surgical beds are available and 24.9% of ICU beds.

The region has 10 consecutive days over the 20% threshold for ICU bed availability, and two consecutive days over the 20% threshold for medical/surgical bed availability.

Within this region, Kane County’s seven-day positivity average is at 11.5%, and DuPage County is at 9.7%.

Hospitalizations have decreased 9 out of the past 10 days in this region.

Finally, within the DuPage/Kane region, there are 66 available, staffed ICU beds out of 324 total and 349 ventilators available out of 572.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 6,762 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 135 additional deaths Wednesday.

By town, Wheaton has had 2,984 total cases, Glen Ellyn 2,112, Lombard 2,916, Villa Park 1,754, Hinsdale 837, Westmont 1,381, Darien 1,108, Woodridge 1,755, Downers Grove 2,493, Elmhurst 2,852, Warrenville 903 and Winfield 724. Addison has had 3,586 confirmed cases, Naperville 4,785, Carol Stream 3,057 and West Chicago 3,158.
