Yingling encourages residents to enroll for affordable health care

Insurance marketplace to be open until April 15 for individuals and families

ROUND LAKE BEACH – State Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, is highlighting the opportunity for residents to enroll in or change their health care plans with the recent reopening of the ACA Health Insurance Marketplace.

“During the COVID-19 pandemic, the importance of having quality health insurance coverage has never been clearer,” Yingling said in a news release. “By extending the open enrollment period, residents can have access to the health insurance choices that they need.”

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the insurance marketplace will be open through April 15 to allow both individuals and families to apply for and enroll in health insurance coverage in 2021. This special enrollment period applies to anyone who does not have health insurance or those that would like to switch from their health insurance plan. Some residents may qualify for financial assistance to help reduce costs.

“With the many financial burdens that residents are facing, requiring people to pay health care bills out of pocket puts an undue burden on working families,” Yingling said. “Affordable health care is a basic right but high costs prevent people from receiving the essential care that they need to survive. People should not be prevented from being healthy and well simply because a handful of multibillion dollar companies are more concerned about making a profit than helping people.”
