The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal crash that occurred Wednesday night in the Boulder Hill subdivision.

In a statement, the sheriff’s office identified the deceased as Jose A. Cardoza-Chavez, 26, of Montgomery.

The sheriff’s office said Cardoza-Chavez was a passenger in a Chevrolet Trailblazer that left the roadway and struck a tree at 8:32 p.m. on Briarcliff Road near Bereman Road in the unincorporated subdivision.

According to the sheriff’s office, Montgomery police had earlier conducted a traffic stop on the Trailblazer on Route 30 near the intersection of Briarcliff Road, but the vehicle fled the scene as the Montgomery officer approached it. The sheriff’s office said Oswego Fire Protection District paramedics transported Cardoza-Chavez to Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora where he was later pronounced dead.
