Oswegoland Park District announces plans for ‘Summer Carnival’ event Father’s Day weekend

Cali Roberts, 15, (right) and Emily Dutton, 15, (left) both of Oswego, were all smiles on The Predator at the Windy City Amusements carnival on the grounds of PrairieFest on Friday afternoon. Having come to PrairieFest for many years, both agreed that their favorite part of the festival was "The rides and being able to hang out with friends."

The Oswegoland Park District has delayed the annual PrairieFest community celebration this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead of holding the festival on the grounds of PrairieFest Park just south of Oswego High School on Father’s Day weekend in June, the festival will take place at the park over Labor Day weekend in September.

But in the meantime, park district officials announced in a Facebook post May 4 that they have scheduled a Summer Carnival event Father’s Day weekend, June 18-20, in the parking lot at Prairie Point Park off Plainfield Road in Oswego.

The carnival rides will be presented by Windy City Amusements, Inc.

“Rides for Father’s Day Weekend!” the post exclaims.

Park district officials also reported they are continuing to plan for a full-scale PrairieFest celebration for Labor Day weekend.

Last year’s festival was canceled due to the pandemic.
