Police: threat left on Oswego School District 308 Administration voicemail ‘not credible’

Out-of-state call prompted by online video of July 12 board meeting; no other threats reported to police

Oswego police have confirmed following an investigation that a threatening voicemail message left on a phone at the Oswego School District 308 Administration Center at 4175 Route 71, Oswego, earlier this month has been deemed “not credible.”

In a previous statement, police said that the message was left at 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 13 and reported to officers at 8 a.m. that morning.

The OSD 308 Board of Education voted 6-0 with one member abstaining to make masks and face coverings optional for students and staff while in school during the 2021-2022 school year, but required for all while on school buses. The board vote came during an acrimonious meeting held at Oswego East High School July 12.

Public Information Officer Cathy Nevara said officers investigating the report determined the voicemail originated outside of Illinois and was made “as a response to an online video of the meeting that was seen.”

Nevara added that while the threat was determined not credible, the case remains under review and that there have been no other threats reported to police.
