POST UPDATED AT 4:45 P.M. WEDNESDAY, FEB. 24
Yorkville police are continuing their investigation into a fight involving several students that occurred in the Learning Stairs area of Yorkville High School, 797 Game Farm Road, Wednesday morning, Feb. 24.
In a statement, Yorkville police said their School Resource Officer requested additional police assistance at the school at approximately 10:38 a.m. due to two fights that were in progress.
“These incidents occurred during a passing period at the high school which resulted in a large crowd of people,” police said
Bristol-Kendall Fire Protection District paramedics treated one student for a head injury and the student was transported to an area hospital, according to police.
Police and school district administrators are investigating the incident but no charges have yet been filed, police said.
In an email sent earlier in the afternoon to high school parents and guardians, YHS Principal David Travis said police along with Bristol-Kendall Fire Protection District personnel were summoned to the school during a passing period.
“YHS administration, Yorkville Police Department, and paramedics responded swiftly and accordingly,” Travis said.
Travis concluded: “We take the safety and health of our students and staff very seriously and I would like to thank the Yorkville Police Department for their quick response and attention to the safety of our students. As safety is a top priority in the district, we would like to remind parents to review the Parent-Student Handbook and discuss with their children the importance of not engaging in activity that endangers the health or safety of students and staff. If your child expresses concerns, please encourage your child to speak directly with a school administrator, dean, counselor, or social worker.”
