Oswego police are continuing their investigation into a double fatal crash involving a semi truck and a sedan that occurred late Tuesday night, March 2, on Route 30 near Treasure Drive on the village’s far east side.

In a statement, police said the 73 year-old male driver of a Buick LeSabre and a passenger, a 26 year-old female, both of Oswego, were pronounced dead at the scene by the Kendall County Coroner. Police did not release the names of the deceased, who had to be extricated from the vehicle.

The driver of the semi truck, Gabriel Magee, 30, of Wayne, Mich. and a passenger in the semi truck both escaped injured, according to police.

Police said they were summoned to the crash at approximately 11:20 p.m. Upon arrival, police found the Buick had struck the semi-truck which was perpendicular to the highway, blocking both lanes of traffic.

According to their preliminary investigation, police said officers determined Magee had attempted to make a U-turn and his semi truck became lodged perpendicular to the highway, east of Treasure Drive. The Buick was traveling westbound on Route 30 when it hit the semi truck.

Police said they ticketed Magee for attempting a U-turn and for stopping/standing on the highway.

Due to the fatalities, the Illinois State Police’s Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene to assist in the investigation. Route 30 was shut down from Treasure Drive to Wolf’s Crossing Road for approximately nine hours.
