Yorkville police arrested Stacey A. Welch, 24, of the 1200 block of Marketplace Drive, Yorkville, at 2:10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 20 while investigating two suspicious vehicles at Riverfront Park in the 200 block of East Hydraulic Avenue in the city’s downtown.
In a statement, police said Welch, who was a passenger in one of the vehicles, was wanted on a Kane County warrant for failure to appear in court on a prior charge of aggravated driving under the influence. In addition, police said Welch was found to have a loaded .380 caliber Hi Point handgun in his coat pocket. The serial number on the firearm had been filed off, police said.
Welch has been charged with unlawful use of a weapon and possession of a firearm without a FOID card, both misdemeanors, and a felony charge of defacing the identification mark on a firearm, according to police.
Welch was transported to the Kendall County Jail in Yorkville pending court proceedings.
