High school sports roundup for Thursday, May 13: Oswego scores six runs in seventh, wins third game of crosstown series

BASEBALL

Oswego 8, Oswego East 2

The Panthers scored six runs in the top of the seventh, snapping a 2-2 tie, to salvage the third game of the crosstown series. Nathan Kennedy drove in three runs and John Buckley two, and Brady Peterlin, Landon Sebestin and Gavin Arseneau had had two hits for Oswego (10-6, 5-4). Jeffrey Behrends struck out five for the Panthers.

For Oswego East (6-7, 4-5) Donavan Zielke allowed two earned runs on three hits and struck out three over five innings in a no-decision. Jonas Gulbrandsen homered and Nick Caruso and Zielke each went 2-for-3 for the Wolves, who had tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Minooka 3, Yorkville 1 (9 innings)

The visiting Indians pushed across two runs in the ninth inning to take the rubber game of the three-game Southwest Prairie West series. Yorkville’s Simon Skroch struck out five and allowed just one unearned run over six innings to get the no-decision. Matt Bivens went 2-for-4 with a home run and Luke Hanson 2-for-4 with a double for Yorkville (11-7, 4-5).

Plano 11, Aurora Christian 1

Winning pitcher Sean Earwood (3-1) struck out 11 over five one-hit innings, and the Reapers (10-7) scored 10 runs in the second inning and went on to the non-conference win.

Kevin Serio went 3-for-3 with a double, a run scored and three RBIs, Eric Perez 2-for-3 with a double, run scored and three RBIs and Alex Velazquez 2-for-2 with a double, three runs scored and an RBI for Plano.

SOFTBALL

Newark 16, Putnam County 2

Taylor Kruser struck out 10 over five innings, and had three hits and three RBIs at the plate for the Lady Norsemen (10-2). Emily DiClementi had two hits and two RBIs and Emily Schofield had three hits.

GIRLS SOCCER

Oswego 7, Plainfield South 0

Anna Johnson scored five goals for the Panthers, who remained unbeaten on their home field.

Oswego East

Mikayla Lambert scored two goals and Chloe Noon, Riley Gumm, Erika Smiley, Hannah Chval, Anya Gulbrandsen and Loryn Paribello each scored one for the Wolves against West Aurora.

Oswego’s Ryan Goddard (113 pounds) won a decision, Logan Guerrero (126) a decision, Zach Sato (145) a pin, Andrew Johnson (160) a decision, Cruz Ibarra (195) a pin and Michael Sturm (285) a pin in contested matches.

Yorkville 49, Plainfield South 27

Dominick Coronado (126), Cameron Peach (132) and Ben Alvarez (195) picked up wins by pin, Tyler Enczur (160) won a decision and Gabe Herrera (170) and Jarek Slavin (285) won by technical fall in contested matches.
