High school sports roundup for Thursday, May 5: Ellie Alvarez’s walk-off homer keeps Yorkville softball unbeaten

SOFTBALL

Yorkville 2, Minooka 1

Ellie Alvarez hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh, and Madi Reeves struck out 11 in a one-hitter, allowing zero earned runs, for the unbeaten Foxes (11-0, 4-0).

BASEBALL

Oswego East 4, Yorkville 2

Ashton Izzi (2-0) struck out seven over five innings, allowing one earned run on three hits, and Donovan Zielke threw two shutout innings of relief for the save as the host Wolves won the rubber game of the Southwest Prairie Conference series. Camden Ruby was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored and Joey Hansen drove in a run for Oswego East (3-6, 2-4).

Yorkville led 2-1 with two runs in the top of the third, but the Wolves answered with two in the bottom half on a throwing error at the plate and a two-out bases-loaded walk. Losing pitcher Simon Skroch struck out five over four innings for Yorkville (10-4, 3-3). Ryan Buck was 1-for-3 with a run scored and Owen Ross drove in a run on a sacrifice fly.

Oswego 7, West Aurora 0

Jeffrey Behrends struck out eight in a four-hit complete game, and Gavin Arseneau was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI for the Panthers (9-3, 4-2), who swept the three-game series. Paxson Hejza was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and Brady Peterlin drove in three.

Sandwich 11, Crossroads Christian 6

Everett Ford had three hits, Gabe Prado two hits Chance Lange two RBIs for the Indians (1-5) in their first win of the season.

Oswego wins by pin included Ryan Goddard (106), Logan Guerrero (126), Aidan O’Meara (132), Zach Sato (145), Andrew Johnson (160), Joseph Griffin (170) and Manny Gonzalez (220).

Yorkville winners by pin included Hunter Janeczko (182), Will Schumacher (220), Jarek Slavin (285) and Sam Mattison (160).
