Mystery Diner: 113 Main a strong first of many anticipated new Oswego restaurants

2020 was a slow year for the Mystery Diner.

We tried to do some quarantine-style reviews and they worked pretty well. But we kind of gave up on that idea.

But now it’s 2021, and we have a new restaurant to review. It’s 113 Main in downtown Oswego.

Built on the former site of Oswego Village Hall, 113 Main has a goal of providing “upscale, approachable American fare with unique twists.”

The menu features classic fare, such as burgers, steak, tacos and mussels, and seasonal changes, such as a cheesecake dessert choice that differs throughout the year.

While 113 Main is open for socially distanced and safe indoor dining, we were feeling a bit tired and decided to order out.

On the menu for us were a shrimp Caesar salad and the Baja tacos.

A unique feature of the Caesar salad at 113 Main, is a fried egg topping the shrimp and lettuce. It was a spicy meal, which my companion appreciated, as well as the smaller, flavorful shrimp. The lettuce and ingredients were fresh and tasty, making for a delicious and light meal.

I ordered the Baja tacos, something I hope remains a constant at 113 Main and something I would easily order again and again.

The Baja tacos, made with mahi-mahi, cabbage, house pico and chipotle remoulade, made a delightfully delicious dinner. Crisp and crunchy, flavorful and just a bit spicy, the tacos were perfectly made and wonderful.

I also want to give extra credit because the four tacos that came in my carryout order were spaced perfectly and packed with zero spillage in transport. Big claps because that’s a surprisingly tough thing to do.

I know that 2021 is going to have a rough start. But we still can do certain things, and it seems like soon we can do more.

So I know I’ll be looking forward to ordering from 113 Main again, and hopefully sitting down to dine sooner rather than later.
