Oswegoland Senior and Community Center to host ‘Taste of Oswego’ in new home

Organization continues to welcome volunteers to assist in remodeling former village police station

The Oswegoland Senior and Community Center will host a housewarming event that will double as the first “Taste of Oswego.”

The event, which the OSCC plans to hold annually, will be held on Friday April 8, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the center’s new location at 3525 Route 34. Tickets are $25 if purchased in advance, or $30 at the door.

Tickets will grant unlimited tastings from 24 Oswego area restaurants, with non-alcoholic beverages included, and cash bar available with beer and wine.

A detailed list of vendors can be found in a recent Oswego Senior and Community Center Facebook post.

OSCC, formerly Oswego Seniors Inc., recently moved into what used to be the village police station on Route 34, opposite the Fox Bend Golf Coruse.

The center had been operating out of various locations in recent years, being forced to move several times and outsource programming to local public facilities like banks and libraries.

But with the recent purchase of the former police station, OSCC now has plenty of room to run operations and for future growth.

Currently the organization is in the process of remodeling the facility that had been vacant for nearly four years and are looking for volunteer help.

In a memo titled “Help OSCC help the community!” OSCC staff announced it is in need of volunteers and expressed gratitude to those who have been helping.

The Oswego Police Department has sent officers who have volunteered to help paint. Boy Scout Troop 31, which will also be calling the center home, has also donated many hours.

“These young men, along with their parents, are demonstrating what it means to be a good partner,” the memo stated.

The memo also listed the 24 local restaurants who will be featured in the Taste of Oswego, and many other local businesses who donated time and resources.

OSCC is also looking for volunteers to lead classes or interest groups, and when open, they will need volunteers on a daily basis.
