Kaneland Harter Middle School

Kaneland School District 302 superintendent Todd Leden disputed an allegation that staff at Harter Middle School attempted to send home a student by calling her an Uber.

“The safety and security of our students and staff is of utmost importance and a top priority,” Superintendent Todd Leden said in an email to the Kane County Chronicle. “Kaneland staff did not call for an Uber for a student and no Kaneland student was allowed to get into an Uber vehicle.”

The district has not elaborated on the specific allegation or what might have prompted the allegation that arose during Monday night’s school board meeting, which adjourned early after some members of the audience refused to follow COVID-19 mitigation rules and wear a mask.

During the public comment portion of Monday night’s meeting, a woman who said she had a granddaughter at Harter Middle School and that on Jan. 19 someone tried sending her home in an Uber ridesharing vehicle due to a potential COVID-19 exposure. The woman said ultimately the girl’s mother picked her up from school.
