CAMPTON TOWNSHIP – An off-duty Elgin police detective was charged with driving under the influence in Campton Township after being stopped for speeding, according to a Kane County Sheriff’s report.

Deputies stopped Jessica L. DeLeon, 43, for speeding 57 miles an hour in a 45-mile-an hour zone at the intersection of Burlington and Empire roads in Campton Township about 11 p.m. on Jan. 3, according to the report.

DeLeon did not comply with the deputy’s request to get out of her 2011 white Nissan, and he had to tell her five times more to get out of the car before she did, the report stated.

“Jessica was asked if she knew how fast she was going,” the report stated. “Jessica’s speech appeared slow and slurred. Jessica ultimately couldn’t answer the question and I advised her that she was being stopped for speeding.”

DeLeon presented the deputy with her Elgin Police Department Detective ID and badge and had to be asked multiple times for her license and proof of insurance, the report stated.

The deputy notes that DeLeon’s eyes appeared bloodshot and glassy and he could smell the odor of alcohol coming from her breath, the report stated.

DeLeon denied taking any medication or consuming any alcoholic-based beverages, the report stated, but later admitted to drinking one drink.

DeLeon refused to perform field sobriety tests, the report stated.

Court records on DeLeon’s bond information and court date were not immediately available.
