First responders raced to a crash scene at 12:44 p.m. Monday on Route 251 at May Road in Peru for a collision in which a sport-utility vehicle overturned. Multiple injuries were reported.

Details still are emerging, but as many as five people were taken from the scene – at least two were extricated, according to Peru police – for medical evaluation.

Traffic on Route 251 was unobstructed. Traffic on May Road, where the dark-colored SUV had tipped onto the driver’s side, was diverted through the shopping plaza that includes Kohl’s and Walmart.
