DeKALB - A garage fire over the weekend on Grove Street in DeKalb caused about $75,000 in damages, according to DeKalb fire officials.

The structure fire was reported around 12:20 p.m. Saturday in the 900 block of Grove Street, according to a news release from the DeKalb Fire Department.

The call was originally made for smoke coming from a garage in the 900 block of East Lincoln Highway, which was soon updated with the correct address when fire crews saw the Grove Street address on the way.

When crews arrived, they saw smoke coming from a large garage in the residential neighborhood. Crews had to forcibly enter the garage, according to the news release, to prevent the fire from entering the home. Firefighters searched for occupants and found none.

According to the DeKalb Fire Department, the flames were under control in about a half hour, though crews remained on the scene for about two hours. No residents were displaced, and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Crews from Burlington, Cortland, Malta, Maple Park and Sycamore fire departments assisted, as did DeKalb police and ComEd.
