DeKALB – Earlier this month, Ferrara donated pallets full of candies and cookies to Voluntary Action Center for the holidays, according to a news release from VAC this week.
The donations are being shared with Meals on Wheels, TransVAC and MedVAC clients, according to the release. VAC staff have been shipping the treats to the five Meals on Wheels kitchens and three transit offices to share with clients throughout the five-county region in northern Illinois.
Ferrara, a company related to The Ferrero Group, has a portfolio of nearly 35 brands that include SweeTarts, Trolli, Brach’s, Black Forest, Nerds, Lemonhead, Red Hots and Now and Later. Ferrara also manages the Keebler and Famous Amos businesses for The Ferrero Group.
Ferrara’s new distribution complex in DeKalb is developed to employ 500 people by spring of next year.
“Ferrara is thrilled to be expanding our footprint into DeKalb with the construction of our new distribution complex,” Abbye Lakin, manager of corporate affairs, said in the release. “We believe in sharing delight, especially in the communities where we live and work, and the Meals on Wheels program is a great way to do that, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
“The timing is perfect as we are putting together our winter emergency food boxes,” Ellen Rogers, VAC executive director, said in the release. “This is a perfect edition. Our thanks to Ferrara for helping to sweeten so many lives.”
