SYCAMORE – A Genoa woman is charged with reckless homicide and aggravated driving under the influence one week after a fatal crash she’s accused of causing killed a Sycamore couple.

Chynna L. Daugherty, 31, of the 500 block of Central Avenue in Genoa, is charged with aggravated driving under the influence causing death and reckless homicide. If convicted of the most serious crime, aggravated DUI causing death, a Class 2 felony, she faces up to seven years in jail and fines up to $25,000.

Daugherty was arrested Saturday, according to a news release from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, one week after a fatal crash killed Christopher M. Henning, 49, and Amanda B. Henning, 46, a married couple of Sycamore.

The Sycamore couple was killed in a crash about midnight Feb. 12 on Peace Road, south of Freed Road. The crash involved the Henning’s SUV and a pickup truck driven by Daugherty in unincorporated DeKalb County, sheriff’s officials said. Daugherty was seriously injured in the crash also, and was arrested Saturday by sheriff’s deputies at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Rockford after her release from the hospital.

Daugherty originally had been charged with DUI after the crash, but the charges were upgraded by the DeKalb County State’s Attorney’s Office, sheriff’s officials said.

The Genoa woman was arrested on a $75,000 warrant and transported to the DeKalb County Jail, where she was released after posting $7,500 bond Saturday, according to the sheriff’s office.

Police said a northbound 2017 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Daugherty crossed the center line about 12:30 a.m. Feb. 12 and struck a southbound 2017 Dodge Journey driven by Christopher Henning with passenger Amanda Henning. Christopher Henning was pronounced dead on the scene and Amanda was taken to Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital, where she later was pronounced dead, according to the sheriff’s office.
