SYCAMORE - Newly installed DeKalb County Circuit Court Judge Marcy Buick has announced her official intent to run for the resident circuit court position on the 2022 ballot.

The spot was vacated upon the retirement of DeKalb County Circuit Court Judge Robbin Stuckert, the first woman to serve in the role. Buick was appointed as Stuckert’s successor in July. She’ll run as a Republican for that seat in the 2022 General Election, according to a Tuesday announcement from her campaign.

In a statement Tuesday, Buick called her time as an associate judge in the circuit court for the past decade “my honor.”

“I am grateful for the confidence that the Illinois Supreme Court has shown in me in my appointment,” Buick said in a statement. “I am prepared to continue in that role as an elected Circuit Judge using my years of experience in participating in the important decisions that will guide our DeKalb County courts into the future.”

Retired DeKalb County Judge John Countryman will serve as her campaign chair, according to the release.

“I have known Marcy for over 20 years,” Countryman said in a statement. “She is a highly capable judge who possesses all the qualities needed to serve as a Circuit Judge, including impeccable integrity and legal skill, along with an excellent judicial temperament. DeKalb County will be well served if she is elected to this position.”

Buick presides over criminal felony cases and trials and order of protection cases at the DeKalb County courthouse in Sycamore.

She originally was appointed as an associate judge in 2011 and has served in DeKalb, Kendall and Kane County courtrooms since that time. During her judicial career, she’s presided over general civil cases, family matters, juvenile delinquency, child support collection and criminal domestic violence cases, according to the release.

Buick is a graduate of Northern Illinois University College of Law and University of Illinois. Buick and her husband, Kevin, reside in Sycamore and their daughter lives in Chicago.
