High school sports roundup for Thursday, Sep. 30

Hinckley-Big Rock’s Sammy Kerlin is headed to sectionals after a seventh-place individual finish Thursday at the Class 1A River Forest Regional at Fresh Meadows Golf Club in Hillside.

Kerlin shot a balanced 18 holes on the way to finishing with a score of 90. She shot 45 on both the front and back nine to lead the Royals. As a team, H-BR finished eighth. Ella McGuire (106), Sydney Razo-Ewan (106) and Alyssa Swanson (106) posted qualifying scores for the Royals in the season finale.

Kerlin will play at the Class 1A Aurora Central Catholic Sectional at Phillips Golf Club in Aurora.

Class 1A Seneca Regional: At The Creek Golf Club, Indian Creek took ninth place in Seneca with a team score of 530.

Caroline Bend was low scorer for the Timberwolves with a 114, finishing in a tie for 25th place as an individual.

BOYS GOLF

Class 1A Elgin Academy Regional: At Golf Club of Illinois, Hinckley-Big Rock’s Elliot McGuire and Richard Hintzsche advanced as individuals to sectionals.

McGuire finished sixth with an 80, and Hintzsche came 17th with an 84 to qualify for Monday’s Class 1A Byron Sectional at Prairieview Golf Club in Byron.

The Royals came sixth as a team with a 352.

VOLLEYBALL

Kaneland 2, LaSalle-Peru 0: At Maple Park, the Knights (20-3, 8-0) reached the 20-win plateau at home with a 25-12, 25-20 win.

Genoa-Kingston 2, Dixon 0: At Dixon, the Cogs (23-0) preserved their perfect record with a 25-16, 25-15 win.

Alivia Keegan had six kills, 13 assists and four digs for G-K. Alayna Pierce added nine kills and seven digs, and Hannah Langton had 15 digs.

BOYS SOCCER

DeKalb 6, Dixon 0: At DeKalb, Landon Weishaar scored four goals and the Barbs (6-7-1) coasted.

Jacob Larsen had an early goal, Weishaar broke things wide open with four straight goals and Carlos Gomez capped things off with a goal near the end of regulation.

Hinckley-Big Rock 9, South Beloit 1: At Hinckley, Andy Gawel had four goals in the Royals win over South Beloit.

Liam Veliz, Eduardo Campuzano, Jacob Badal, Tyler Smith and Michael Murphy had one goal each for H-BR in the blowout. Keegan Fitzpatrick made 16 saves.

Newark 5, Indian Creek 0: At Shabbona, the Timberwolves dropped their regular season finale.

GIRLS SWIMMING

Naperville Central 153, DeKalb 26: At Naperville, the Barbs seemed overmatched against the Redhawks.
