High school sports roundup for Wednesday, May 26

Hinckley-Big Rock’s girls soccer team put together a strong offensive performance Wednesday in Oregon to pick up a 5-1 win.

Ashleigh Wackerlin scored twice for H-BR, while Morgan King, Abby Neidigh and Josie Radar added one goal apiece.

Kaneland 3, Morris 0: At Maple Park, the Knights earned a spot in the Interstate Eight Conference Tournament championship match with a win over Morris.

All three of Kaneland’s goals came in the second half.

BASEBALL

Kaneland 13, Huntley 0 (4 inn.): At Maple Park, a 10-run third inning allowed Kaneland to break the game open.

Marian Central 5, DeKalb 2: At DeKalb, a three-run fifth inning was key for the Hurricanes in a win over the Barbs.

Kevin Lamont’s single was the only hit for DeKalb.

SOFTBALL

Metea Valley 9, DeKalb 6: At DeKalb, the Barbs allowed four runs in the top of the fourth inning to allow Metea Valley to surge ahead for good.

Katelyn Kolkebek was 3 for 4 with two runs and two RBIs for DeKalb, and Lauren Gates was 3 for 4 with a double and two runs scored.

DeKalb’s Jaelyn Latimer allowed nine runs, only two of which were earned.

BOYS TENNIS

Morris 3, Kaneland 2: At Maple Park, the Knights fell by a narrow margin in their final home meet of the season.

Aden Mumm earned a win at No. 2 singles, while Andy McEvoy and Caleb Hwang picked up the victory at No. 2 doubles.
