Brady Popovich hits, pitches Kaneland past host Plano

Brady Popovich was 3 for 4 with a double and two runs scored and picked up the save, striking out five over two innings, as Kaneland held off, host Plano, 6-4 in Interstate 8 Conference baseball action Monday.

Alex Panico added two hits with an RBI and a run scored for the Knights. Carter Askew and Tyler Conklin were both 2 for 4. Conklin also earned the win, scattering three hits over five innings and striking out 13.

Newark 7, Indian Creek 3: At Newark, the Norsemen scored four runs in the bottom of the first, and the Timberwolves never recovered in the Little Ten Conference game.

Kyle Bangert (2 for 3) accounted for half of the four hits for Indian Creek (4-6, 4-1). Erik Jernigan drove in a pair of runs.

Sycamore 15, Morris 2: At Sycamore, Jimmy Amptmann homered and drove in three runs, Joey Puleo was 3 for 3 with three runs scored and two RBIs, and the Spartans rolled in Interstate 8 action.

Puleo, Blake Novinsky, Ethan Steele and Keifer Tarnoki all doubled for Sycamore. Tommy Townsend and Byron Blaise (RBI) were both 2 for 3, and Tarnoki was 2 for 2 with two RBIs.

Dixon 7, Genoa-Kingston 0: At Genoa-Kingston, the Cogs had only four hits in their Big Northern Conference loss.

Connor Schwichtenberg had a double for G-K’s only extra-base hit.

Naperville Central 12, DeKalb 1: At DeKalb, the Barbs dropped the DuPage Valley game in five innings.

Ashton Gates was 2 for 2 with three stolen bases for DeKalb.

SOFTBALL

Sycamore 24, Plano 0: At Plano, Brooklyn Snodgrass belted a grand slam and knocked in five runs, and Haley Von Schnase was 3 for 4 with a double and four RBIs for the Spartans in their Interstate 8 win.

Paige Collie was 2 for 4 with two RBIs, Jalyna Polichnowski went 2 for with a double and three RBIs. Chelsea Smith (1 for 1) contributed a double and an RBI.

LaSalle-Peru 6, Kaneland 5: At Kaneland, the Knights scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh, only to see their rally fall short in the Interstate 8 game.

Rose Roach and Olivia Stoker both homered for the Knights. Roach, Stoker and Mackenzie Hardy were all 2 for 4 for Kaneland.

Neuqua Valley 6, DeKalb 2: At Neuqua Valley, the Wildcats scored all six of their runs in the bottom of the fourth of the DuPage Valley Conference game.

GIRLS SOCCER

Kaneland 10, Plano 0: At Plano, the Knights cruised in an Interstate 8 match.

Indian Creek 9, DePue 1: At Indian Creek, Emily Astling, Audrey Witte and Jill Shotsberger each scored twice for the Timberwolves in their Little Ten victory.
