Sycamore boys hoops cruises past Sandwich on senior night

Xavier Gagnepain scored 15 points, Sam Stoner added 12 and Sycamore’s boys basketball team celebrated senior night by defeating visiting Sandwich, 57-40, in Interstate 8 Conference action Monday night.

The Spartans (6-7, 5-6) got seven points from Bailey Wiegmann and six from Ben Herrmann.

DeKalb 69, Neuqua Valley 48: At Neuqua Valley, Tyler Westberg made six 3-pointers and scored 22 points, and the visiting Barbs improved to 17-0 overall and 9-0 in the DuPage Valley Conference.

Lane McVicar added 20 points for DeKalb, and Trenton Kyler had 19.

Rockford Christian 45, Genoa-Kingston 44 (OT): The Cogs lost in overtime in Big Northern Conference Tournament action.

Colin Nesler scored 14 points for G-K, which will host Byron in the third-place game at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Alec Golembiewski had 10 points in the loss and Jake Oates added nine.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Rockford Lutheran 58, Genoa-Kingston 50: The Cogs lost the BNC tournament game despite Lily McPherson’s 25 points.

Bridget Babb finished with 11 points and Delaney Hemann pitched in seven for G-K, which will host Rockford Christian in the seventh-place game at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Sycamore 45, Sandwich 40: At Sandwich, the visiting Spartans escaped with the Interstate 8 win.

Evyn Carrier led Sycamore (14-2, 11-0) with 14 points, while Mallory Armstrong and Ella Shipley each had 10.
