DeKALB – DeKalb County added 44 more residents to its fully vaccinated total Wednesday, according to IDPH, and local health officials reported 23 more virus cases.
The new cases bring the total coronavirus case count to 12,467 in the county, according to the DeKalb County Health Department. The number of deaths remains at 133, with no new deaths reported Thursday.
The seven-day rolling positivity rate for Region 1, which runs north to Rockford and west to the Iowa border, is 4.2%. The DeKalb County positivity rate is at 3.2%. Positivity rates are reported with a three-day data lag. Region 1 also reported a seven-day average of 105 COVID-19 patients hospitalized.

According to Illinois Department of Public Health data, 104,381 total vaccine doses have been administered to DeKalb County residents, and 51,342 residents – or 51.1% of the county’s population of 100,420, according to 2020 U.S. Census Bureau data – have been fully vaccinated. The seven-day rolling average of doses administered to county residents is at 145.

One local long-term care facility continues to report COVID-19 outbreaks as of Thursday, although no new cases have been reported in days.
According to DeKalb County Health Department, Oak Crest DeKalb Area Retirement Center reported to date seven employees who have contracted the virus during the latest outbreak.
The health department considers a facility in “outbreak mode” if new virus activity is reportedly linked to the facility within 30 days. If the facility goes 30 days without reporting new activity, it will be taken off the health department’s outbreak website, health officials have said.
Updated vaccination by ZIP code data shows the percentages of residents in DeKalb County ZIP codes who have been fully vaccinated as of Wednesday. ZIP code population data used by the IDPH utilized unofficial 2018 census data, including those 12 and older, according to IDPH spokesperson Melaney Arnold.

In the 60111 (includes Clare) ZIP code, 92.67% of the population is fully vaccinated. In the 60112 (Cortland) ZIP code, 54.2% is fully vaccinated. In the 60115 (DeKalb) ZIP code, 45% is fully vaccinated. In 60135 (Genoa), it’s 55.18%. In 60145 (Kingston), 41.19% is fully vaccinated. In 60146 (Kirkland, Fairdale), 40.83% is fully vaccinated. In 60150 (Malta), 47.87% is fully vaccinated. In 60151 (Maple Park), 53.38% is fully vaccinated. In 60178 (Sycamore), 58.57% is fully vaccinated. In 60520 (Hinckley), 49.68% is fully vaccinated. In 60548 (Sandwich), 49.56% is fully vaccinated; in 60550 (Shabbona), 45.46% is fully vaccinated; in 60552 (Somonauk), 47,28% is fully vaccinated; and in 60556 (Waterman), 47.81% is fully vaccinated.
Of the new virus cases reported Thursday, there were five in residents age 19 or younger, two in their 20s, four in their 30s, seven in their 40s, three in their 50s and two in their 70s.
In total, there have been 2,476 cases in residents age 19 or younger, 2,972 in their 20s, 1,896 in their 30s, 1,658 in their 40s, 1,483 in their 50s, 1,020 in their 60s, 517 in their 70s and 445 in their 80s or older.
Of the 133 deaths reported in DeKalb County thus far, 74 were in residents in their 80s or older, 23 were in their 70s, 21 in their 60s, nine in their 50s, three in their 40s, one in their 30s, one in their 20s and one infant.
The DeKalb County Health Department does not specify how many COVID-19 cases are linked to delta or any other variant of the virus. Testing for variants in positive COVID-19 results is done randomly and at the state level, according to local health officials.
According to DeKalb County data most recently updated as of Oct. 8, prior to the DeKalb County government suffering a ransomware attack which halted several online systems, there have been between 5,391 and 5,895 cases in DeKalb, 2,436 and 2,440 cases in Sycamore, 1,066 and 1,070 in Sandwich and Plano (listed as one region on the site), 936 and 940 in Genoa, 266 and 270 cases in Kingston, 581 and 585 cases in Cortland, 306 and 310 cases in Hinckley, 276 and 280 in Kirkland, 256 and 260 cases in Somonauk, 171 and 175 in Waterman, 171 and 175 in Malta, 136 and 140 in Shabbona, 111 and 115 in Maple Park, 36 and 40 in Earlville, 26 and 30 in Clare, 11 and 15 in Leland, 16 to 20 in Esmond, and six and 10 in Lee. Hampshire, Marengo and Rochelle each reported between one and five cases.
The IDPH reported that 1,677,939 people in Illinois have tested positive for COVID-19, while 25,563 people have died statewide. The department reported that 34,343,988 tests have been administered to date.
According to testing and recovery data released by the county every Friday, 11,622 DeKalb County residents have fully recovered and 215,983 tests of county residents have been completed as of Oct. 15. There were 615 reportedly still in recovery, according to the DeKalb County Heath Department.
