Elgin man charged in connection to Sunday Coltonville Road crash in Sycamore

SYCAMORE – Sycamore police officers say a driver involved in a vehicle crash that resulted in hours-long road closures on Coltonville Road now faces charges from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.

Police wrote in a Tuesday news release from the Sycamore Police Department that Diamante J. Parker, 22, of the 900 block of Seminole Drive, Elgin, tried to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone, crashing into the vehicle at a high rate of speed. The roadway was shut down and Sycamore Fire helped treat injuries at the scene, the release states.

“Parker had slight injuries and was treated at the scene,” police wrote.

Parker was charged with traffic related charges by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office. Parker was issued a citation for a lane usage violation, according to the news release.

“Other possible charges are pending toxicology results,” police wrote.

Deleon McClain, of the 2200 block of Flagstone Lane, Carpentersville – who was the passenger in the suspect vehicle, police confirmed – was transported to Kishwaukee Hospital for treatment from crash injuries. He was later transferred to Rockford-OSF St. Anthony’s Hospital.

“The driver of the [other] vehicle had minor injuries and was treated at the scene,” police wrote.

The incident was called in initially as a driving complaint at about 7:52 p.m. Sunday in the area of Peace and Frantum Roads, Sycamore police wrote in a Tuesday news release.

“This vehicle fled the attempted traffic stop so the Deputy did not pursue, based on the speed and behavior of the driver,” police wrote. “Seconds later, the erratic driver caused a traffic accident near the intersection of Coltonville Road and Willow Street.”

Sycamore Dep. Police Chief Michael Anderson said Monday there were no arrests made as of that afternoon in connection with the crash, though law enforcement officers were still looking at possible charges at the time.

“This is still an ongoing investigation,” Anderson said.

Anderson said Coltonville Road was closed until 12:55 a.m. Monday.

Anderson confirmed Monday the coroner was not called and the passenger in one of the vehicles involved was transported to Kishwaukee Hospital. DeKalb County police scanners reported the patient was airlifted to Rockford from the DeKalb hospital for trauma treatment.

DeKalb County Sheriff’s deputies and Illinois State Police troopers aided Sycamore police in the investigation.
