Authorities have identified the two motorists killed in Saturday’s three-vehicle crash near Annawan.
Monday, state police said 41-year-old Christopher Gedraitis of Peru and 27-year-old Christopher Ivy were pronounced dead in the crash reported at 12:12 a.m. Saturday on Interstate 80, about 4 miles east of the Annawan exit.
A third motorist, 42-year-old Ryszard Kustwan of Justice, Ill., was not injured in the crash, police had reported previously.
Ivy was headed west in a 2003 Chevrolet Monte Carlo when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed the median and entered the eastbound lanes. The Monte Carlo struck Gedraitis’ 2004 Cadillac DeVille head-on. Kustwan, headed east in a 2013 Freightliner tractor-trailer, was unable to stop in time to avoid striking the now-halted Chevrolet and Cadillac.
An Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit responded and is continuing the investigation. Eastbound traffic was closed until about 9:42 a.m. for investigation and recovery.
