Letter: Hard work of Republicans running for local office appreciated

To the Editor:

What a crazy year 2020 has been! The COVID-19 situation has changed the way all parties have approached in-person voter outreach in this election cycle. Parades, once a staple of election year Americana, have been canceled. No Sandwich Fair booth. No CornFest. No Pumpkin Festival.

In particular, our volunteers have changed the way we do door-to-door campaigning.

At a time like this, the hard work and devotion of public servants and those who aspire to public service is appreciated. Experience means something to the people of DeKalb County, and in this election, it is more important than ever.

Each of our county-wide candidates is motivated by a desire to serve the citizens of DeKalb County as they have done over many years. Lori Grubbs for Circuit Clerk, Rick Amato for State’s Attorney and Dennis Miller for Coroner are at the top of our local slate. For them, these offices are a commitment to the community, not a springboard for higher office.

Our DeKalb County Board candidates are similarly equipped with that same desire for service over partisan rancor. Jerry Osland, Roy Plote, Karen Cribben, Jeff Whelan, Bill Cummings, Laurie Emmer, Pat Deutsch, Tim Hughes and Kathy Lampkins provide voters with a choice to provide balanced budgets, safe county roads and support for public safety.

In addition, we support the re-election of Jeff Keicher and Tom Demmer for State Representatives in the 70th and 90th Districts, respectively. Their support for local economic development initiatives like the Facebook, Ferrara and Syngenta US was critical for bringing these important job creators in our community.

Both Jeff and Tom represent a good “fit” between their constituency and their representative.
