Plymouth Tube in Streator is closing after 52 years of operation.
The manufacturer at 1209 E. 12th St. employed 33 mostly skilled positions.
Jack Dzuris, executive director of the Streator Area Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said Mayor Jimmie Lansford was notified recently of the closure.
The manufacturer is consolidating the work in Streator to its Winamac, Ind., facility.
While the Streator facility downsized recently, the pandemic played a factor, according to the company’s report.
Plymouth Tube relies on other facilities to bend and shape their steel products, including working with small pieces.
The company, which employs union labor, has been an active member of the chamber.
Plymouth Tube issued a statement saying that it would work with its employees’ labor union on resources for its employees, including benefits, as the Streator location closes.
