GENEVA – A Crystal Lake man was charged with two counts of felony aggravated battery in a public way allegedly for running after people in a public park and threatening to kill them, according to police reports.
Anthony J. Vilchis, 18, of the 7900 block of Ridgefield Road, Crystal Lake, was also charged Sept. 28 with misdemeanor aggravated assault, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and battery.
According to reports, police were called to Moore Park, 875 Geneva Drive, shortly before 11 p.m. on Sept. 25 in response to a person with a knife.
Victims told police Vilchis pulled out a knife and began running toward a third person stating, “I’m gonna (expletive) kill you,” the report stated.
“The defendant stated he pulled out what he described as a metal rod and said, ‘Who’s gonna get hit with it,’” the report stated. “The defendant said he pulled a metal pipe out and chased (a victim) saying, ‘I’m gonna beat your ass.’”
Victims also told police Vilchis said, “Who’s messing with my girl, I’m gonna (expletive) kill you,” the report stated.
Vilchis admitted to striking one of the victims with a closed fist, the report stated.
One victim told police he was punched in the face by a man he didn’t know, but later was identified as Vilchis, the report stated.
Vilchis also swung his fist at another person, but he dodged the punch, the report stated.
One of the victims told police Vilchis punched him his face and his bottom teeth were chipped and his upper canine tooth was also chipped, the report stated.
Several juvenile witnesses at the park confirmed the victims’ statements, according to the report.
The most serious charges Vilchis faces are the two Class 3 felonies, punishable by two to five years in prison and fines up to $25,000 if convicted.
The four other charges are Class A misdemeanors, punishable by up to 364 days in jail and fines of up to $2,500, if convicted.
Vilchis is currently being held in the Kane County jail on $10,000 bond. He would have to post $1,000 or 10% as bail, records show.
If Vilchis posts bail, the judge’s instructions are that he be placed on electronic home monitoring, his movements are to be restricted, he cannot consume or possess alcohol or drugs, undergo random drug and alcohol testing and is barred from entry at homes in St. Charles Township and Geneva, court records show.
His next court date is Nov. 6.
