Tranquility Spa and Wellness Center becomes Larimar Med

ST. CHARLES – Dr. Lauren Fitzgerald sees herself as a healer.

Fitzgerald recently purchased Tranquility Spa and Wellness Center in St. Charles, renaming it Larimar Med. Appropriately enough, Larimar is a stone that is said to have healing properties.

"A lot of the people that will continue to come here have been going to Tranquility forever," Fitzgerald said. "I wanted to honor their name, but not keep their name. When I came across the name Larimar Med, I found this Pinterest picture that said tranquility and healing. And ultimately, healing is what I want to bring to the place. I just thought it was a perfect match for what I want this place to embody."

Tranquility Spa first opened its doors on Sept. 5, 2000 and had just celebrate its 20th anniversary. Tranquility founder Beverly Miller is now the director of training and development at Larimar Med and former Tranquility general manager Loreta Lescelius is the manager of office operations at Larimar Med.

Fitzgerald met Miller at a yoga facility in St. Charles.

"I totally believe the universe meant this to happen," Fitzgerald said. "We start talking and I realized that Beverly had a lot of the same beliefs as me as far as the way to heal the body. They both wanted to continue in this realm, but they no longer wanted to run a business."

Fitzgerald practices functional medicine, which is an approach that focuses on identifying and addressing the root cause of disease instead of just treating it with prescription drugs.

"Functional medicine is the natural approach to healing a patient," she said. "My patient population that I work with is tired of getting prescription after prescription after prescription."

She transformed the Tranquility building from a spa into a wellness and med spa center offering services like cryotherapy, infrared sauna/red light therapy, skin care, facials, massages and medical weight loss services.

"We'll continue to offer facials and massages, because that goes along with my belief of taking care of the body that we have," Fitzgerald said. "Self-care is paramount in the journey of becoming your healthiest and happiest."

She has firsthand knowledge of the benefits of cryotherapy. Fitzgerald used cryotherapy to heal her ACL injury.

"I healed much faster than your average 35-year-old," she said. "All of these modalities have been stuff that I use myself."
