Virtual Sycamore Pumpkin Fest off table for 2020, organizers said, but decorating contest to occur

SYCAMORE - Organizers for Sycamore Pumpkin Fest had hoped to hold some events this year virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but announced Friday that won't be possible.

"It is with heavy hearts that we announce that due to the lack of insurance coverage and possible liability issues that could arise due to COVID-19, the Sycamore Pumpkin Festival Committee has voted to cancel all events for the 2020 Sycamore Pumpkin Festival," states a social media post for the popular family-friendly fall festival.

"The committee was fully vested in trying to work with some of our vendors to allow for a no contact or virtual event for 2020. However, for the protection of our community and our volunteer committee safety had to be the first decision.

We look forward to keeping Wally’s vision for a fun, family friendly tradition moving forward, and hope to see you in person in 2021."

Lions Club Pumpkin contest coming in October

In lieu of Sycamore Pumpkin Fest this year, another Sycamore organization plans to hold a pumpkin decorating contest.

According to an announcement on social media this week, the Sycamore Lions Club will hold a Pumpkin Display and Decorating contest in October, with more details to come.

The Lions Club traditionally supplies the pumpkins used for Pumpkin Fest.
