High school girls cross country: 2020 season preview capsules

Praririe Ridge repeated as the third-place finisher at the Class 2A Girls Cross Country State Meet last season with five different runners in its lineup.

The Wolves have their top seven runners returning, led by All-Staters Colette Janik and Rylee Lydon, and could have a shot at another trophy if there is a state meet.

Starting the season, that is very much in question amid the COVID-19 pandemic, but coaches are hopeful something still might be worked out.

Crystal Lake South’s Bella Gonzalez won the Fox Valley Conference title as a freshman last season.

Huntley’s Molly Allen was the best of a strong freshman group that helped the Red Raiders make it to the Class 3A State Meet.

McHenry’s Lydia Zancho and Cary-Grove’s Morgan Dieschbourg and Maggie Mason are three other top returners in the FVC.

Richmond-Burton returns four of the top runners to make another run at the Kishwaukee River Conference championship.

Molly Allen was a Northwest Herald All-Area first-team selection, and the Burak twins were usually the Nos. 3-4 runners at the end of the season. … Six of the eight top runners return for the Red Raiders, and Allison, a freshman, should make an impact in Huntley's top seven. "Already this summer she has shown she can run with our top group," Kaplan said.
