ST. CHARLES – A 17-year-old Campton Hills teen has been charged in connection with an armed robbery at a St. Charles 7-11 store on Aug. 9.
The teen boy was charged with armed robbery and intimidation, according to a news release from the St. Charles Police Department. He was also charged with the armed robbery of a Shell gas station in Campton Hills on July 21.
At 9:21 p.m. Aug. 9, officers responded to the store located at 2400 E. Main St. in the Foxboro Plaza for a report of an armed robbery that had just occurred, the release stated.
The employee at the store reported the offender entered the business and displayed a knife as he approached the counter, according to the release. The offender was described as being approximately 5 feet, 10 inches tall, wearing a black hooded sweat shirt and red face covering.
The offender also had what appeared to be red dye on his hands, according to the release. No one was injured in the incident and the offender left the store with an undisclosed amount of money.
He then possibly left in a vehicle, the release stated. A review of the store’s security camera system showed that the offender was wearing a unique hooded sweatshirt.
St. Charles police officers and detectives immediately started to investigate the crime. During the investigation, information was obtained that led to a search warrant being issued for the residence where the juvenile resides, according to the release.
St. Charles officers and detectives were assisted by the Campton Hills Police Department in the execution of the warrant. During a search of the residence, items of evidence that linked the juvenile to the St. Charles robbery were found as well as items that linked him to the armed robbery of a Campton Hills gas station on July 21.
