Glidden Hill Grill & Catering in DeKalb wants to treat you like family

DeKALB – For Evanthia Matarangas, owning a restaurant is more than a family business, it runs in the family.

Matarangas, 24, owns Glidden Hill Grill & Catering with her father, Pete Matarangas. Her father started Lukulos Restaurant in DeKalb when he was 23.

“Our family is very family-orientated and opening the restaurant has been a bonding experience,” Evanthia Matarangas said. “My dad’s the food guy and I help out with everything else.”

The restaurant opened in late July and had its ribbon cutting with the DeKalb Chamber of Commerce Thursday afternoon.

Glidden Hill Grill & Catering, located at 930 Pappas Drive in DeKalb, is open from 3 to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 3 to 11 p.m. Fridays, noon to 11 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 8 p.m. Sundays.

The restaurant offers dine-in, carryout, delivery, private parties and catering.

Evanthia Matarangas describes the food as “Greek food, like gyros, kabobs, pitas and souvlaki, but with a cool twist.”  The restaurant also serves half-pound hamburgers, sandwiches, salads and homemade soup. Boneless chicken breast, skirt steak and pork steak dinners are served Athenian style and include rice, potato and bread.

Pete Matarangas said that the restaurant offers “something different than everyone else.”

“We have grilled Greek food and traditional favorites, food that no others in the area has as far as the menu goes,” he said. “The atmosphere is very inviting and the food is very good.”

Anna Coates, membership manager with the DeKalb Chamber of Commerce, describes the restaurant as “a new take on family-style food.”

“I’m excited to see something unique come to DeKalb, a restaurant that’s not a franchise that invests in the north campus area,” she said. “I’d say come try it out. The menu is extensive, there’s a little bit of something for everyone. Come support a local business that’s investing in the community.”

Evanthia Matarangas described the restaurant’s location, the 5,800-square-foot space previously occupied by Rosati’s Pizza of DeKalb, Rosy’s Roadhouse and Starbusters Bar & Grill, as “right in the middle of everything, a great location in DeKalb.”

“We want everyone to feel welcome,” Evanthia Matarangas said. “Whenever you come in, we’ll treat you like family.”
