Ottawa's Music in the Park adds two more concerts

Wild Daisy, Ray's Rockets set to perform in Washington Square

Two more concerts have been added to the 21st season of Ottawa's Music in the Park series.

The Ottawa Special Events Committee has scheduled Wild Daisy for Aug. 22 and Ray's Rockets for Aug. 29. Wild Daisy specializes in current country hits with a dash of country and rock classics sprinkled in. Ray's Rockets' setlist includes rock 'n' roll music from the 1950s through the 1990s.

The additions bring the running total of concerts to five this season after a late start due to efforts to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus. On Aug. 8, the Flat Cats will deliver a fizzy cocktail of jazz, blues, contemporary classics and timeless standards. On Aug. 15, Mary and the Troublemakers will perform hits by Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash, Connie Francis, Patsy Cline and Elvis Presley, among others.

"We've been pleased with attendance, each time [has been] better than we typically draw to a single concert, and people social distance well and seem grateful for an enjoyable, yet safe, diversion," Peggy Schneider of the Special Events Committee said.

Concerts begin at 6 p.m. in Washington Square. Social distancing and mask guidelines in accordance with Phase 4 of the Restore Illinois plan remain in place.
