Wilco's Jeff Tweedy to perform Sept. 18 at McHenry Outdoor Theater

Live music is returning to McHenry County in September.

Jeff Tweedy, singer and guitarist for the band Wilco, will play Sept. 18 at the McHenry Outdoor Theater.

Tweedy announced the concert in a post to Twitter on Tuesday. According to Wilco’s website, tickets go on sale at 11 a.m. Friday.

McHenry Outdoor Theater opened for drive-in movies in May and has hosted graduation ceremonies, too. Theater owner Scott Dehn could not be reached for comment Tuesday.

According to ticket info linked through Wilco’s website, concertgoers must be at least 18 years old. A single car pass ticket includes entry for up to four people per vehicle, but if a car can legally seat more than four people, a discounted upgrade can be purchased for $30 per additional person. If a driver chooses to bring fewer than four people, the base price will remain the same. The base price per car was not immediately clear on the website.

Concertgoers are encouraged to buy a vehicle pass and any extra passenger tickets ahead of time. The event is expected to sell out. A customer service attendant will be on hand if a party decides to buy additional passenger tickets last minute.

The front two rows will be sold as premium viewing. Passes also will be sold to the front lot, middle lot and back row sections. Each section will be parked on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The theater’s PA system will be used during the concert. Masks will be required outside of cars. Bathrooms, concessions and merchandise will be available. Concertgoers can bring their own food, too. Chairs can be placed in front of or beside cars, as long as they are in the designated area assigned to the car.

Doors open at 6 p.m. The show will go on rain or shine.
