Domestic dispute gave rise to weapon report at Elgin hospital

Police reports reveal no weapon, no gun, no arrests

ELGIN – Heightened police presence at Amita Health St. Joseph Hospital, 77 N Airlite St., Elgin, the evening of April 29 was a dispute between a husband and a man he suspected was his wife's boyfriend, according to Elgin police reports released following a Freedom of Information Act request.

No arrests were made as the parties involved did not want to pursue charges, reports stated.

The hospital security had enacted its active shooter protocol, based on initial reports that two men in the hospital parking lot were fighting and yelling about a gun being pulled, reports stated.

A woman who came to the hospital to drop someone off told police her husband follows her around and he and the person she dropped off “got into it,” the report stated.

She had moved out of her house, away from her husband. She moved back because she was afraid of bringing the coronavirus to the people where she was staying, reports stated.

Her husband believed her moving back meant they were a couple again, but she said she would be moving out soon, reports stated.

The woman told police she believes her husband has a tracking device on her phone, reports stated.

The woman told police her husband came up to her car and began to pound on the passenger side of the window where the other man was sitting, reports stated.

He did get out of the car, but never made physical contact with each other, just yelling back and forth, reports stated.

She did not see anyone with a gun, reports stated.

Her husband does have a handgun, which he had showed her, and stated, “does he need to get dealt with?” The woman told police the gun has a cable lock on it and she is the only one with a key, reports stated.

She said her husband has been violent in the past, but she did not want to pursue charges against him, and just wants to be divorced from him, reports stated.

The other man involved also did not want to pursue charges, the report stated.
