OREGON – Oregon school district students and parents are returning to school one last time this week to pick up their belongings and return their uniforms and other equipment.

Staff packed up the items students were forced to leave behind in March, when school was shut down for the rest of the year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Friday is the last pick-up day.

“Our originally scheduled last day of school was May 20, but we are aware that some of our students have been struggling with completing their assigned work during remote learning,” Superintendent Tom Mahoney wrote in a Facebook post. “To address this, we have moved the last day for new work to be due to May 13."

May 14-20 will be used for students to make up missing and incomplete assignments, and teachers will be putting in extra time with them that week. Those who have finished their work by then still must report in because the state requires 174 days of attendance.

“Families, it is our hope that by providing this additional time and support to your student(s), they can complete the work necessary to move on next school year,” Mahoney wrote.

“As I have stated previously, if you are facing difficulty, please reach out to your child’s teacher or principal, and we will work with you to support your child.”
