Colby-Petersen Farm added to National Register of Historic Places

Colby-Petersen Farm in McHenry recently was added to the National Register of Historic Places, according to a news release from the city.

The nomination was submitted by Sean Jacobson and Emily Taylor of Loyola University and with support from Amy Hathaway, a survey and national register specialist at the Illinois Historic Preservation Office. Members of the Landmark Commission helped with gathering information.

The National Register of Historic Places is the U.S.’ official listing of districts, sites, buildings, structures and objects deemed worthy of preservation for their historical significance.

Colby-Petersen Farm, located at 4112 McCullom Lake Road in McHenry, was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 13, according to the U.S. National Park Services’ website.

Colby-Petersen Farm earned this recognition for being representative of the development not only of this area, but of the larger Midwest, according to the release. The farm was formed in 1842 and acquired from the Colby and Petersen families by the city for preservation.
