Charter Fitness in Crystal Lake closes permanently

The Charter Fitness location at 6308 Northwest Highway in Crystal Lake has closed permanently, according to an email sent to members.

The closing date will be effective on April 1, when all memberships will be transferred to the Charter Fitness in Mundelein at 1543 S. Lake St.

"We are sadly forced to make this difficult decision and do not come to it lightly," according to the email. "Our priority is your health and fitness. Our hope is that you remain active now and when we are allowed to re-open in Mundelein, you will come to give it a try."

According to the email, the next membership billing date is April 17, but if the gym is not open then members will not be billed. Members are asked to call 888-827-9262 with questions.

A call to the Crystal Lake branch on Monday morning went directly to voicemail.
