DeKALB – Armor Computer Shop is moving its business up the street to the former Elks building.
After a decade at 143 E. Lincoln Highway, the shop’s owner, David Galica, of Armor Techs, announced that the move to 105 W. Lincoln Highway felt right in the new year and new decade. The tech company will utilize most of the first floor, Galica said.
“We’re very excited about the move,” he said in email announcement. “The building is in a prime location and has a better layout, so we can revamp our internet marketing department and tech repair area.”
The red sandstone house at the corner of First Street and Lincoln Highway used to be home to the Elk's Lodge though dates back to 1897 when Dr. Edward Mayo built the mansion when he got married to Harriett Ellwood. Mayo purchased the building from Russell Huntley, the founder of DeKalb, whose log cabin once stood on that spot, historian Steve Bigolin has said.
The Elks bought the space in 1922 and sold it in 1993, when Jim and Catherine Hovis, of DeKalb, bought it for $350,000 in 1994.
In addition to selling equipment, Armor Techs offers IT and internet marketing services, according to its website.
To help with the move, the business is holding a moving sale of its extensive collection of cables and cords, power supplies, monitors, television sets with DVD players, printers, refurbished desktops and more.
