MONTGOMERY – An Aurora man has been charged with driving under the influence of cannabis after being stopped by Montgomery police for a moving violation.

Montgomery police stopped Devonn Deleon, 27, of the 500 block of East Downer Place, Aurora, at 11:54 p.m. Jan. 30 near Montgomery Road and Douglas Avenue after they observed him driving with no lights on when required, according to a Wednesday, Feb. 5 news release from the police department. Officers observed an odor of cannabis coming from the vehicle and Deleon allegedly admitted to smoking cannabis, the release said.

Police said Deleon completed but failed field sobriety tests. He was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of cannabis.

Police said in the Wednesday release Deleon also had two valid warrants out for his arrest, one out of Kane County for a battery and one out of Kendall County for driving on a suspended license.

Along with being charged with the DUI, Deleon also was charged with driving with no lights when required and possession of cannabis, police said in the news release. Deleon was eventually released on his signature after posting cash for the warrants.

Montgomery police officials did not immediately respond to a request from Record Newspapers for a mug shot of Deleon.
