A second suspect in a burglary at Helzberg Diamonds has been arrested.
About 1:40 p.m. Friday, Christopher Sampson, 26, of the 1400 block of Arch Dale in Detroit was booked into the Will County jail on charges of burglary and theft in connection with the burglary at the 2712 Plainfield Road jewelry store.
Sampson's bond was set at $500,000. His booking photo shows him wearing a neck brace and with an injury to the top of his head.
Joliet police Sgt. Christ Botzum and Will County sheriff spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said they didn’t know why Sampson was wearing a neck brace. Joliet police detectives investigated the jewelry store burglary but Botzum said they didn’t arrest Sampson.
Sampson, an Amazon employee, entered the store and stealing jewelry, according to a criminal complaint.
The other alleged burglar, Kareem Henry, 35, was arrested Dec. 24. His bond was set at $250,000.
At 4:45 p.m. Oct. 9, officers were sent to Helzberg Diamonds after receiving a 911 call about a burglary in progress, according to Joliet police.
Sampson and Henry allegedly entered the store, broke into a glass display and fled with jewelry.
The investigation of the burglary led detectives to Michigan, police said, and they worked with the state police there to identify suspects.
On Oct. 11, Will County Judge Carmen Goodman signed a warrant for Sampson's arrest. Judge Fred Harvey signed the warrant for Henry's arrest Dec. 12.
During the investigation, more than $2,500 worth of stolen jewelry was recovered, police said.
