‘When is the Kaskaskia coming?’

Peter Limberger said he knows that everyone in La Salle is wondering, “When is the Kaskaskia coming?”

He addressed the future of the hotel Wednesday afternoon during a groundbreaking ceremony for a planned microbrewery cafe, coffee shop and upscale loft living project in downtown La Salle.

Limberger, who owns CL Real Estate along with his wife, Inga Carus, was there to celebrate the planned upcoming businesses at 801-805 First St.

“I don’t want to talk about the Kaskaskia,” he said. “The Kaskaskia will come, and it will be in your lifetime.”

“I’m 74 (years old),” said La Salle alderman Jim Bacidore, who is known to publicly voice skepticism when it comes to Limberger’s projects.

CL Real Estate Development has told La Salle’s city council in the past about the plans to develop the Kaskaskia Hotel in downtown La Salle; a project worth $33 million.

Around 2015, the hotel’s revival was announced for La Salle's more than 100-year-old Hotel Kaskaskia into a regional center for meetings and celebrations. In 2016, a timeline to finish construction and renovation by late 2018 was set.

Limberger told those in attendance at the groundbreaking for the microbrew public that the Kaskaskia will be reality “even in “Blouke’s (Carus) lifetime. … This is our promise to that.”

In 2003, developer Blouke Carus bought the Kaskaskia with intentions of restoring it.

The groundbreaking ceremony did include CL Real Estate handing out booklets titled “Kaskaskia Hotel & Conference Center” with information about what is planned for the hotel.
