Domino's, Jersey Mike's coming to Morris

Dominos, Jersey Mike's coming to Morris

The city of Morris is one step closer to getting two new fast food businesses.

On Tuesday, the Morris City Council unanimously approved a conditional permitted used request to allow a new restaurant drive-thru facility.

The petitioner, Mev Morris, LLC, plans to build 3,500 square foot commercial building at 1747 N. Division St. in Morris.

"This is on the south side of the Sherwin Williams on Route 47," said Mayor Richard Kopczick. "The building to be constructed will have two new restaurants, one is a Jersey Mike's and the other is a Domino's Pizza. It will be a drive-thru window, a pick up window. You'll already order [pizza] and you'll use the drive-thru. But, those do require an official permitted use."

The application went through the plan commission in December, and a public hearing was held on Dec. 18. There was no public comment or written comment submitted during that hearing.

The proposal was also approved by the Development Review Committee on Jan. 9.

The new building will include a brick facade and aluminum awnings, as well as landscaping. A date for when construction will begin was not discussed during the council meeting.

In other action on Tuesday, the council approved a change order for the Gore Road Lift Station project, in the amount of $21,760. Mayor Kopczick said crews working on that ongoing project had to unexpectedly remove concrete that was located 30 feet below the surface at the station.

The council also approved an estimate from Illinois Electric Works for a variable frequency drive for a pump at the potable water treatment plant in the amount of $11,140.
