The featured short story in this week's LocalLit newsletter is by Tom Hernandez of Plainfield.
Hernandez has published four books: “Chocolate Cows and Purple Cheese, and other tales from the homefront” – essays; “Abundance – a collection” – poetry; “The Edge of Middle, thoughts from the top of the hill” – essays, poetry and short fiction; and a novel, "The Acorn Wars," about a man searching for his identity after his father's death.
He recently spoke via email with Herald-News features editor Denise M. Baran-Unland.
Baran-Unland: Why do you write?
Hernandez: I've written most of my life, both personally and professionally. I enjoy sharing information, telling stories, educating and entertaining people.
Baran-Unland: What does your writing routine look like?
Hernandez: Professionally, I write every day. Personally, I write when inspiration and opportunity comes.
Baran-Unland: Give a one-line summary about your featured short story.
Hernandez: A man takes his revenge for a seemingly-small issue that actually illustrates a much bigger problem.
Baran-Unland: Tell us about your current work-in-progress and/or future works.
Hernandez: I plan to publish my fifth book, a collection of poetry, essays and short fiction written since my granddaughter was born two years ago.
Baran-Unland: Where can people find more information about you?
Hernandez: tomhernandezbooks.com.
