Houlihan's closes in Geneva Commons

Closure comes before Houlihan's sale to Landry's Inc.

GENEVA – Houlihan’s, located at 1322 Commons Drive, Geneva, closed Dec. 29. This was one of nearly a dozen of Houlihan’s restaurant locations that was shuttered just before Landry’s acquired the restaurant chain for $40 billion.

Houlihan’s had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in November.

The other Illinois Houlihan’s to close was located at 321 Rice Lake Square, Wheaton.

Geneva Commons property manager Cathy Charhut said Houlihan’s had been there about 15 years.

“They did close at this location effective Dec. 29,” Charhut said.

Houlihan’s restaurants also closed in Algonquin and Orland Park in November. Three restaurants remain open in Naperville, Champaign and Schererville, Indiana.

The Claddagh Irish Pub, an Irish-themed eatery and bar at 1502 Commons Drive, also at the Geneva Commons shopping mall, closed in November 2018.

That restaurant site still remains vacant.

“We are always talking to new lessees, but it’s nobody I can talk about,” Charhut said.

Landry's, based in Texas, is a privately owned dining, hospitality and entertainment corporation. According to its website, www.landrysinc.com, Landry's owns and operates more than 600 properties. Landry's has acquired several restaurant brands, including Bubba Gump Shrimp Company, Rainforest Cafe and Morton Steakhouse.
