The Starved Rock Yacht Club Charities gave more than $4,500 to local agencies in November.

The organization handed out the "giving back" grants as a way to adhere to its mission "to provide community outreach, education and recreation throughout the Illinois River Valley," according to a press release. A flagship annual community event, grant program and an Elementary STEM Trunk to support local teachers helps the group work towards that goal.

Recipients of the $4,600 in grants include: Ottawa YMCA, Waltham School, Harding Grade School, Lincoln Elementary School, I-80 Chapter of AMBUCS, youth services, Ottawa High School, Friendship House, Trinity Services, Mendota High School, Starved Rock Regional Center and the Community Food Basket of Ottawa.

SRYC Charities and its team of volunteers provide community outreach, education and recreation through the Illinois River Valley by safely providing recreational opportunities to individuals with special needs, hosting the annual Ron Robb Memorial Special People Cruise, connecting individuals with nature, providing ecological education programs, cultivating environmental stewardship, supporting water conservation efforts and helping to protect natural resources.
