PHS graduate appointed military appellate court judge

FORT BELVOIR, Va. — Lt. Col. Elizabeth A. Walker was sworn in as an appellate court judge for the Army Military Court of Appeals in November at Fort Belvoir, Va. The court is an independent appellate judicial body authorized by Congress and established by the Judge Advocate General of the Army that hears and decides appeals of Army court-marshal convictions and other trial court rulings. They can render decisions from Army trial courts that are all over the world.

During her time as a criminal defense attorney, Walker deployed to Camp Liberty, Iraq, and served as the senior defense counsel with the 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas, from 2005 to 2006. She was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service while in Iraq along with various other medals and commendations. She was selected to serve as special victim prosecutor in which she was adviser and prosecutor for courts-martial involving rape, sexual assault, child sexual assault, child pornography, child physical abuse and domestic abuse at Fort Hood, Texas, from 2013 to 2015. While assigned to the Pentagon in 2015 as a special liaison between the military and Congress, she also acted as a military escort for congressional committees to various foreign countries.

Walker is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, the Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, the U.S. Army Court of Criminal Appeals and the Massachusetts Supreme Court. She is a graduate of the U.S. Army’s Command & General Staff College in Ft. Leavenworth, Kan. (2013). She earned her Master of Military Law degree (LLM) at the Judge Advocate Officer’s Graduate Course in Charlottesville, Va. (2010), and the Judge Advocate Officer Basic Course (2001) in Charlottesville, Va. She is a graduate of Vermont Law School (J.D., 2000), and the University of Illinois (B.S., 1997).

Walker is a 1992 graduate of Prince­ton High School. She resides in Washington, D.C., with her husband, Col. Daniel Everett. She is the daughter of Michael and Sharon Walker of Princeton.
