Metra, Mokena to hold emergency drill Saturday

Rock Island Line trains will not stop at Hickory Creek station

An emergency drill Saturday morning will cause Metra trains to skip Hickory Street station in Mokena.

Metra, the Transportation Security Administration, the village of Mokena and other area police and fire departments will be conducting an emergency drill Saturday at the Hickory Creek station on the Rock Island Line, according to a news release from the commuter rail service.

The purpose of the drill is to assess Metra’s intradepartmental coordination, communication and assessment plans, processes, and capabilities in an emergency. The exercise will also provide an opportunity for Metra and local first responders to exercise response and recovery capabilities, the release said.

During the drill, Rock Island Line trains will not stop at the Hickory Creek station. This will affect the first four inbound trains (trains 202, 204, 106 and 110) and the first two outbound trains (trains 205 and 109).

Customers can use the Mokena Front Street or Tinley Park-80th Avenue stations as alternatives.
